Community Gathers at Marlins Park to Support Mental Health Awareness

Miami, FL – May 11, 2025 – A large crowd gathered at loanDepot Park, home of the Miami Marlins, for a mental health awareness event organized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). The event focused on promoting education, reducing stigma, and increasing community engagement around mental health.
NAMI President and CEO Susan O. Holtzman addressed attendees, emphasizing the urgency of creating inclusive support systems and the importance of sustained outreach. She acknowledged the diverse groups represented and stressed the need for mental health care that reflects the experiences of all communities.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava delivered a keynote address, highlighting the county’s designation as the first stigma-free community in the United States. She called for expanded resources and long-term strategies to support individuals and families facing mental health challenges. Following her remarks, the mayor spoke with Asiana Post about the role of local government in mental health advocacy and the importance of removing social and cultural barriers to care.
The program opened with a performance of the national anthem by Joshua Ho of the Asian American Advisory Board, underscoring the involvement of Miami’s Asian American community in this initiative.
Among those interviewed was DJ GQ, a South Florida-based artist of Asian and Jamaican heritage, known for his work with musicians like DMX and members of the Marley family. He spoke candidly about the importance of mental health in the entertainment industry and the need for supportive environments.
The event was part of NAMI’s ongoing national effort to raise awareness and build partnerships for accessible and equitable mental health care.
