Museum of Discovery and Science Hosts 13th Annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Celebration
Fort Lauderdale, FL – On May 18th, the Museum of Discovery and Science commemorated its 13th Annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Celebration, an event that attracted thousands of attendees and highlighted the rich tapestry of Asian-Pacific American cultures. Led by Museum President and CEO Joe Cox, along with the diligent efforts of Linda Tran and the museum staff, the celebration featured an impressive array of performances and activities that captivated over 2,000 visitors, surpassing last year’s attendance.
The festivities commenced with a warm welcome from the Polynesian Proud Aloha Greeters, who filled the air with the enchanting sounds of traditional Polynesian island music. Braddah Derek further set the stage with live Hawaiian melodies and engaging hula lessons provided by Polynesian Proud. The audience was mesmerized by the intricate classical Indian dance performed by the Kuchipudi Dance Group, while a Butterfly Release added an element of natural beauty to the day’s events.
Among the many highlights were performances by the LaniSina Polynesian Dance Academy and Omilani Alarcon, both of whom brought the vibrant cultures of the Pacific Islands to life. The Balintawak Sola Filipino Martial Arts School showcased the skill and discipline inherent in Filipino martial arts, and the Champa Chameli Dance Group highlighted traditional South Asian dance forms. The powerful rhythms of the drums of Tahiti, led by Buki, resonated through the venue, with performances like “From Tahiti with Love” and “Aloha from Hawaii” offering authentic experiences of Hawaiian and Tahitian culture.
Throughout the celebration, Polynesian Proud offered interactive hula lessons, inviting attendees to immerse themselves in the elegance of this traditional Hawaiian dance. Experienced instructors guided participants through basic hula steps and movements, sharing the cultural stories and significance behind each dance. The day concluded with a breathtaking performance of the Samoan Fireknife Dance, leaving the audience in awe.
The South Florida Filipino American Chamber of Commerce (SFFACC) also had a significant presence, with President Darren Mendoza and Board Director Mellany Killian underscoring the importance of community support and representation.
Fort Lauderdale’s Mayor Dean Trantalis contributed to the event’s significance by issuing a proclamation that celebrated the diverse cultures and rich history of the Asian-Pacific American community. General Kazuhiro Nakai accepted the plaque, symbolizing appreciation and recognition.
This year’s celebration not only honored the cultural heritage of the Asian-Pacific American community but also underscored the power of unity and community support. The Museum of Discovery and Science provided a valuable platform for cultural exchange and education, reinforcing the importance of diversity and inclusion in our society.
NEW PHILIPPINE HONORARY CONSUL IN FLORIDA TAKES OATH OF OFFICE

This is an important milestone as Ms. Sharol P. Noblejas becomes the new Philippine Honorary Consul in Florida. The oath was administered by Ambassador Jose Manuel G. Romualdez at the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C., with Sharol’s husband and son, Norman and Nicholas, present as witnesses. There were also present the Deputy Chief of Mission, Jaime Ramon T. Ascalon, Jr., and the Consul General, Iric Cruz Arribas, as well as the Vice Consul, Fides Quintos. Jacksonville, Florida will be the location of her consular post, which will cover all of Florida’s territory.
Ms. Noblejas brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her new role, having served in various capacities that have shaped her into an exceptional leader. With a robust background spanning diverse sectors, including healthcare, IT project management, and community service, Noblejas is well positioned to strengthen the relationship between the Philippines and the state of Florida.
In her professional career, she has demonstrated a commitment to excellence and service, exemplified by her roles as a Senior IT Project Manager at GuideWell Health, a Senior IT Project Manager at Florida Blue, and a Client Site Manager/Consultant at Leidos Health, among others. In this role, she will undoubtedly be able to utilize her extensive experience in project management, financial oversight, and stakeholder engagement
Ms. Noblejas has demonstrated her invaluable expertise in the healthcare information management systems (HIMS) industry. Notably, she played a pivotal role in assisting a delegation from the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry during their attendance at the 2024 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition — the largest gathering of healthcare technology professionals worldwide from March 11-15. In light of Ms. Noblejas’ deep understanding of the industry, she was able to hit the ground running, providing invaluable support to the delegation in particular and to the Philippine Embassy in general in the area of economic diplomacy.
Aside from her professional accomplishments, Ms. Noblejas is actively involved in the community, reflecting her passion for serving others and making a positive difference in the world.
Gala Event Shines Bright with Stellar Performances and Influential Guests

On February 10th, the Philippine American Society hosted an annual gala event to showcase community solidarity and cultural celebration. The event drew an impressive crowd, emphasizing the community’s enduring dedication to excellence. The evening was marked by extraordinary performances and meaningful discourse, leaving attendees spellbound.
Distinguished luminaries graced the occasion, including Mrs. Fay, the esteemed CEO of Ultimate Care, whose impassioned speech highlighted the importance of community engagement and support. Local YouTube sensation, Dumpster Diver Pinoy Inday Ronin, added electrifying energy to the festivities, captivating the audience with her charisma and charm.
Behind the scenes, the board of directors of the Philippine American Society worked tirelessly to orchestrate an event that exceeded all expectations, setting a new standard for future galas. Their unwavering commitment and meticulous planning were instrumental in making the event a success.
The attendees of the event were privileged to spend time with Mrs. Macatagay, who was the late wife of Dr. Macatagay. He was the Honorary Consul for Miami in South Florida and a renowned community leader who left a lasting impact. Mrs. Macatagay’s presence served as a poignant reminder of her husband’s contributions and inspired everyone present to continue pursuing excellence. Additionally, the Asiana Post team had the opportunity to interview Mellany Killian and Stella Diaz, who are members of the Board of Directors.
